Manage Pull List
Learn how to use Digby to scan items to fulfill hold requests.
Digby allows library staff, student workers, and volunteers to work with pull lists for holds without needing to print off physical copies of the list. Since Digby updates in real-time, library workers can instead access the pull list on their mobile devices and scan items directly in the stacks, which eliminates the need to reprint lists for updates or bring items back to the Circulation desk for processing before they can be shipped.
Digby also provides immediate feedback to users when a scanned barcode matches or does not match the corresponding barcode in the pull list. Digby will also display any special handling instructions or notes that exist for an item.
To begin scanning items for the pull list:
- Tap Manage Pull List on the Digby home screen.
- Items that need to be pulled to fill holds appear in the pull list on the lower part of the screen. A brief record of the item appears in the list and contains the following information:
- Title
- Author
- Publication Year
- Date Requested
- Call Number
- Ort
- Barcode
- Notes (if staff notes have been entered for the item).
- To view a more detailed record of an item on the list, tap and hold the brief record for the item. A pop-up will appear that contains the above information as well as:
- OCLC Number
- Publisher
- Edition
- Languages
- To sort the contents of the pull list, tap Sort by under the camera window. A menu will open with the following options. Tap an option to apply it to the list:
- Shelf Location, Call Number: Sorts by shelf location and call number. Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress are currently supported.
- Scheduled Date: Sorts by the schedule date of the hold. The most recently scheduled holds are at the top of the list.
- Request Date: Sorts by the date the hold was requested. Older requests are located at the top of the list.
- To filter the contents of the pull list, tap Filter by under the camera window. A menu will open with the following options. Tap an option to apply it to the list:
- No Filter
- Scheduled
- External Requests
- Special Requests
- Once an item from the list has been pulled, scan it by holding your mobile device over the item's barcode so that the barcode appears in the camera window at the top of the screen.
- If better lighting is needed in order to scan the barcode, tap the lightbulb icon to the right of the Type or scan barcode field at the top of the screen to turn on your device's flashlight. Tap the icon again to turn the flashlight off.
- To manually enter a barcode instead, tap the Type or scan barcode field at the top of the screen. Your mobile device's keyboard will launch, and the barcode can be typed in.
- If you will only be entering barcodes manually, the camera window can be deactivated by tapping the camera icon located to the right of the Type or scan barcode field. Tap the icon again to re-enable barcode scanning.
- If the item is successfully scanned, a green banner will display near the top of the screen informing the user of the location that the held item should be routed to. If an item is scanned that does not appear on the list, a pop-up will appear directing the user to return the item to the shelf.
- Once an item has been scanned, the list counts located to the right of the list filters will update to reflect the number of items scanned and the number of items that still need to be scanned.
