How does ILLiad know which field to use in an OpenURLMapping table when there can be redundancies in the different fields coming across

Symptom
  • URLs from WorldCat contain redundant information
Applies to
  • Illiad
Resolution

Different systems take different types of information for OpenURL, that is why there are different options that seem redundant.  For example, in this URL, it shows:

rft.dat=1322278574
rfr.id=1322278574
rft.id=1322278574
ctx_id=1322278574

All of those referring to the OCLC Number which is the ILLiadFieldName ESPNumber.  What is important is that the Order it is put it in the OpenURLMapping table.  Whatever shows up first in the OpenURLMapping table, will be the one ILLiad will receive.

The Default OpenURLFieldValues for ESPNumber are:

<#rft.dat>|<#rfe_dat>

So, ILLiad will take rft.dat and disregard the rest.
