Why is a title displayed as a multipart item instead of a monograph?

Answer

The incorrect display is typically caused by coding in the Local Holdings Record (LHR). To ensure the title is displayed as a monograph, update the MARC 21 fields in the LHR:

1. Open the affected item via “View/Edit” to access the item record.
2. Select “View/Edit in MARC 21” to open the MARC editor.
3. Update the following fields:
   • Leader (Field 000):
     Set Type of Record to x – Single-part item holdings.
   • Field 008 (Fixed-Length Data Elements):
     Set Completeness to 4 – Not applicable.
4. Save the Local Holdings Record.
5. Repeat the adjustment for all items linked to the same bibliographic record.

Additional information

• The display in WMS is controlled by the coding within the Local Holdings Record, particularly the Leader and fixed fields.
• Incorrect values such as u – Unknown in the Leader can lead to unintended interpretations, such as multipart display.
