Nummering en afkortingen in nummeringsvelden

Nummering

  • In de transcriptievelden kmc 4004 (Onzelfstandige deel-/tussentitel), kmc 4006 (Sectietitel), kmc 4007 (Onzelfstandige deel-/tussentitel), kmc 4025 (Nummeringsveld), kmc 4130 (Titel van (sub)koepel van meerdelige publicatie zoals vermeld in publicatie), kmc 4150 (Titel van (sub)koepel van meerdelige publicatie zoals vermeld in publicatie) en kmc 417X (Titel van koepel van reeks zoals vermeld in publicatie) worden de cijfers van de nummering overgenomen uit de publicatie. Dus de Arabische en de Romeinse cijfers worden als zodanig overgenomen.
  • Sinds de update van de RDA Toolkit in april 2015 hoeft de reeksnummering niet meer exclusief uit de resource zelf te komen, maar mag deze ook van buiten de resource komen. Zie RDA Toolkit 2.12.9.2 Sources of Information. Informatie van buiten de resource wordt omgeven met rechte haken. Die haken moeten dan worden geplaatst om de reekstitel - als ook de reekstitel wordt ontleend aan een bron buiten de publicatie - en om de reeksnummering afzonderlijk. Dus: [titel] ; [nummering].
  • Volgens paragraaf 1.8.3 Numbers Expressed as Words worden nummers die als woorden in een publicatie voorkomen, naar cijfers 'vertaald'. Volgens het Nederlandse RDA profiel worden dan Arabische cijfers gebruikt.
  • In kmc 4140 (Extra PPN-verwijzing naar titel van (sub)koepel van meerdelige publicatie in gestandaardiseerde vorm), kmc 4160 (PPN-verwijzing naar titel van (sub)koepel van meerdelige publicatie in gestandaardiseerde vorm) en kmc 418X (PPN-verwijzing naar titel van koepel van reeks in gestandaardiseerde vorm) worden Arabische cijfers gehanteerd. Deze kmc's vallen niet onder de transcriptievelden, maar bevatten gestandaardiseerde gegevens, waaronder de nummering.

Afkortingen gerelateerd aan nummering

In de transcriptievelden 4004, 4005, 4006, 4007, 4025, 4130, 4150 en 417X worden geen afkortingen gehanteerd. Zie RDA Toolkit Appendix B Abbreviations and Symbols, B.4 Transcribed Elements.

In paragraaf 2.12.9.3 Recording Numbering within Series staat: "Record the numbering of the resource within the series as it appears on the source of information. Apply the general guidelines on transcription (see 1.7) and the general guidelines on numbers expressed as numerals or as words (see 1.8).

Capitalize other words and alphabetic devices used as part of a numbering system according to the usage in the resource.

If the numbering consists of a year and a number that is a division of the year, record the year before the number (see 2.6.2.3).

In de kmc's 4140, 4160 en 418X worden wel afkortingen gebruikt. Zie Appendix B Abbreviations and Symbols, B.7 Latin Alphabet Abbreviations.

Appendix B bevat ook overzichten met afkortingen inzake het Griekse, Cyrillische, Hebreewse en Jiddische alfabet.

In paragraaf 24.6.1.3 Recording Numbering of Parts staat: "Record the numbering of a part or parts as it appears on the source of information. Apply the general guidelines on numbers expressed as numerals or as words at 1.8. Abbreviate terms used as part of the numbering as instructed in appendix B (B.5.5)."

De in Nederland veel gebruikte term deel met de afkorting dl. staat niet in Appendix B Abbreviations and Symbols, B.7 Latin Alphabet Abbreviations als toegestane afkorting. De lijst is echter niet volledig. Deze Nederlandse afkorting dient nog aan deze appendix te worden toegevoegd, maar kan intussen gewoon gebruikt worden.
