I am unable to Replace an imported record in Connexion.

Symptom

  • I imported a record to my local save file in Connexion from my local system.
  • The import was successful and I am able to edit the record, but after I Produce the record, the options to Replace the record are greyed out.

Applies to

  • Connexion

Resolution

When a record is imported into Connexion (via the File/Import Records menu), replacing it in WorldCat (via the Action/Replace* set of menus) is disabled unless the master record is Locked first (via Action/Lock Master Record menu).  Until then, users will see that all of those Replace menus are disabled.

Additional information

The reason that Replace is not allowed on imported records is to ensure the integrity of WorldCat. Even if a record has an 001 field which looks like a valid OCLC#, there is no way for the system to be absolutely sure that the record represents the same item in WorldCat.
