Learn how to edit a metadata property in CONTENTdm (new version).
Roles: Users with the Administrator or Collection manager role can edit metadata properties. Refer to CONTENTdm (new version) roles.
Note:
CONTENTdm (new version) has managed properties, which are included in every instance, and custom properties, which you create. You can edit custom properties. For managed properties, some settings are locked. Refer to About metadata properties for more information.
On a metadata template, you can change the Required and Constraints settings for a property. The Property name, Definition, Publicly viewable, and Searchable settings are set on the Metadata properties screen and cannot be changed on a template. Refer to Metadata templates for more information.
Edit a custom property
Select the Edit button () under the Actions column in the row for the property to be edited. Or
Click a property name and then click Edit on the property screen.
On the Edit metadata property screen, edit any of the fields below.
Property name
Definition: Select a new Definition from the drop-down list. Refer to Definitions for more information.
(Optional) Constraints: Select or deselect constraints for the property. The constraints available depend on the property's definition.
Vocabulary: This property is constrained to a specific vocabulary. Select the vocabulary to use for the property. Refer to Manage vocabularies for more information. Managed vocabularies include:
WorldCat Entities - Person Note: To add additional custom vocabularies, refer to Controlled vocabularies. If the property is constrained by more than one vocabulary, results from the first selected vocabulary will be displayed first.
Date: The property only accepts dates. This constraint is available only for Date (ISO 8601) or Date (text) definitions.
If you do not select a constraint, the property is a text entry field.
Required: Determine whether a value must be entered every time the property is used in a template. The Title property is always required.
Publicly viewable and Searchable: Determine whether the property appears on your public website and whether its values are searchable.
Each instance of CONTENTdm (new version) has a limit on the number of searchable custom properties. If you have reached the limit, you cannot save another custom property as searchable. Refer to Searchable property limits for more information.
Click Save.
