Quick add

Add a single digital item to CONTENTdm (new version) with Quick add: upload a file, enter metadata, then save as a draft or publish.

Roles: Users must have the Administrator, Collection manager, or Collection builder role to add digital items and metadata in CONTENTdm (new version). Users with the Collection builder role can save items as drafts but cannot publish them. Refer to CONTENTdm (new version) roles.

Quick add adds one file at a time. To add a compound item, a URL, or a metadata-only item, refer to Add a compound item, Add a URL, or Add a metadata-only item.

Before you begin

Quick add has fewer steps than Add a digital item:

You can use Quick add for image and PDF files.

Quick add an item

  1. From the Content management > Add items screen, select which collection to add the item to from the Collection drop-down.
    • The default collection is displayed initially, but the last collection in which items were added will subsequently appear in your session.
  2. Click Quick add.
  3. On the Add an item screen, select your file by dropping it in the drop area or selecting browse files.
  4. From the Add an item screen, select your file by dropping the file in the gray box or selecting browse files. A preview of the file appears.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Add metadata to the file by entering the collection properties. Required fields are noted with an asterisk (*).
    • A title is required. If you leave the title empty, an error appears and you cannot continue.
    • The properties that appear come from the collection's metadata template. Refer to Metadata for more information.
    • Only metadata properties with values will appear to end-users on the public-facing site.
  7. Choose one of the following:
    • Click Save as draft to save this item in My drafts for later review and editing. Drafts are specific to the user who created them and are not shared across the site.
    • Click Publish to publish the item to the collection.
    • Click Cancel to leave without saving. You will return to the Add items screen.

The item is in processing and cannot be edited, published, or deleted until processing is complete. To check the status, refer to the Process manager. If the file cannot be processed, the error appears in the Error log.
