This happens when the file (or in the case of a compound object, one of the files) is too large. The maximum allowed file size in CONTENTdm is 2 GB. When you try to upload a file larger than that, the file keeps attempts to upload beyond the limit, causing the upload manager to continually increase the file size beyond the actual size of the file.
To resolve this issue, reduce the file size to 2 GB or smaller before attempting to upload again.
This can also happen when you default display image type is JPEG2000. These files are much larger than JPEGs, so if you upload JPEGs with JPEG2000 set as your default display image, the uploaded file will be significantly larger than the original.
You can change you default image type and enable Lossy compression in the Project Settings Manager under Images & Thumbnails.
