Why does a hold request have an unexpected barcode starting with g-$?

Answer
Barcodes starting with g-$ are system-generated barcodes. These special barcodes are made when a hold request is submitted as a special request. You can also identify special hold requests by the note in the request.
A special request occurs when the library user wants a specific item, but there is not enough detail for Circulation to select a barcoded item to appear on the Pull List.
