How do I add Laptops or other items to WMS for Circulation?

In WorldShare Record Manager, locate a bibliographic record in WorldCat for a laptop or the type of hardware you're looking to add. If an existing record has the correct publisher details (brand and model of yours), then use that record. Otherwise, derive a record from the
- You will notice you need to use the 'object' format for these, as there is no equipment format.
- If you have derived a bibliographic record, add the new record to WorldCat and take note of the OCLC number.
- If you need to create a new shelving location for these items, then log into Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Holding Codes & Shelving Location Messages > expand the Holding Codes Translation Table > type in the new
shelving location required. Save your changes. - Logout of WMS and back in to be able to see the new shelving location.
- In Circulation > Discover Items, look up OCLC number you've just created using the scope All WorldCat.
- Select the title and click Add item.
- Add in the shelving location, barcode, etc., and save your changes.
If you do not already have a loan policy to use with these materials, you will need to set up a loan policy to circulate these items. Some considerations:
- Loan Limit policy (allowing 1 item to be loaned only)
- Loan Limit Matrix (who this limit policy applies to)
- Loan Policy (1 week loan policy or duration you require for these items)
- Loan Policy Map (who this rule applies to, what material type, branch, shelving location & Loan Policy)
- Ensure you have a corresponding Notification & Overdue Bill Policy for these items.
