WMS Circulation release notes, June 2026

New WorldShare Circulation user interface is on by default

The new WorldShare Circulation user interface (UI) is now on by default for all staff users. This interface introduces several accessibility improvements to better support users with low vision, mobility limitations, and multilingual needs, aligning with WCAG 2.2 standards.

• Higher contrast for text and icons, and slightly larger font and icon sizes to meet minimum target size requirements.
• A new font supports over 150 languages and improves disambiguation (e.g., distinguishing zeroes from O's) to reduce reading errors.
• Consistent heading structure and a side menu navigation that allows more than one accordion to be open at a time.
• All components are keyboard operable with a double focus ring to improve focus visibility.
• Numerous improvements to browsing, viewing, and creating events for rooms, including the ability to click a 30-minute slot on the calendar to automatically open the Create Event form.

These changes reduce cognitive load, improve performance on small displays, and increase keyboard efficiency for staff. You can still turn off the new UI if needed. If you turn off the new UI, we encourage you to share your feedback in the OCLC Community Center so we can understand your experience. For issues while using the new UI, contact OCLC Support.

Coming soon: NGN auto-generate templates from legacy

OCLC is preparing an optional tool to help you create Next-Generation Notification (NGN) templates with less manual setup. The auto-generation feature uses AI to review your legacy notification configuration and generate draft NGN templates you can preview, refine, and publish.

• When an NGN type replaces a legacy notification, the agent can draft a template from your existing legacy template for that notification.
• For net-new NGN types that have no legacy equivalent (visit our NGN overview page to see how available Next-Generation Notification templates map to legacy notifications), the feature will still suggest a starting template based on inferences from your legacy configuration.
• The agent is designed to support all NGN notification types available in WorldShare Circulation, including new types as they are released.
• The tool will be optional; your staff will review and validate drafts before templates are saved and used with patrons.

We will deliver this feature as soon as it is available, potentially as a standalone release, but no later than the July 2026 WorldShare Circulation release. Watch the OCLC Community Center and upcoming release notes for availability.

Next-Generation Notifications

• You can now save changes to error handling settings in Service Configuration under Next-Generation Notifications > General Settings. Previously, attempting to add or update an email address for error handling, or to change the setting back to No, failed with an error, and your changes were not saved.

Loan Limit Matrix

• You can now load and save Loan Limit Matrix configurations that include a large number of rows in OCLC Service Configuration. Previously, some libraries with extensive loan limit policies encountered errors when updating the matrix.

Discover Items

• You can now search for multiple barcodes at once in the modernized Discover Items screen when you paste a list of barcodes separated by line breaks (for example, from a spreadsheet or Circulation Item Inventories report). Previously, the search treated the entire pasted list as a single barcode and returned no results.
• You can now see the barcode and character count indicator above the search box when searching by barcode, as described in Discover Items help. Previously, this indicator was missing in the modernized interface.

Holds and pickup locations

• Patrons can now see pickup options in WorldCat Discovery for unbarcoded holdings on a local holdings record when other copies on the same record are barcoded. Previously, pickup options for the unbarcoded holding were omitted when at least one barcoded item existed on the record.
• You can now place an item-level hold on a temporary item from the item details screen without the select items dialog opening. Previously, placing a hold on a temporary item opened both the place hold dialog and the item picker, even though the item was already selected.

Billing

• You can now see the correct charging library in the Create bill dialog after you select an item to link to the bill. Previously, the charging library displayed at the top of the dialog did not update to reflect the owning library of the selected item, which could be confusing in circulation groups.
• Patrons can now view Circulation fees in the User Portal when fees are linked to items on their account. Previously, some patrons received an error when opening fees because of duplicate item data returned for a single item.

Modernized user interface

• You can now select View/edit metadata from the Actions menu on an item details screen in the modernized UI. Previously, only View in WorldCat Discovery appeared in the menu.
• You can now view patron account summary details with consistent left alignment on the patron account screen. Previously, the Account Overview column was center- or right-aligned, leaving a large gap of whitespace on the screen.
• You can now use the check-in screen at narrow display widths without overlapping controls or truncated dropdown values in the settings section. Previously, buttons and dropdowns overlapped other text and dropdown values were cut off when the screen was resized (e.g., 320 pixels wide).
• You can now activate action buttons using the keyboard after you move focus to the button with the keyboard. Previously, you could move focus to the new action buttons but could not activate them with the Enter key.
