Auto-generate templates

Learn how to auto-generate templates for your Next-Generation Notifications.

Auto-generate templates is an optional tool in the Service Configuration that allows staff to automatically create Next-Generation in the  with less manual setup. The auto-generate feature uses AI to review your legacy notification configuration and generate draft NGN templates you can preview, refine, and publish.

For new NGN types that have no legacy equivalent, or if a legacy notification was not previously configured, the tool will suggest a starting template based on inferences from your legacy configuration


To generate templates using the Auto-generate functionality:

  1. Navigate to WMS Circulation > Next-Genration Notifications in the Service Configuration.
  2. Click a template type (ex. Patron).
  3. Click the Auto-generate templates (AI) button near the top of the screen.

  4. A drop-down menu opens. Select the desired template from the menu.
  5. A prompt will appear asking if you would like to Include institutional logos on drafts. Click Yes to include a logo or No to skip.
    • If Yes is selected, a list of your previously uploaded logos will appear. Click a logo to select it for the new template.

  6. The new template will be generated. If any corresponding legacy notifications have already been configured, the tool will look at these when generating the new template. 
  7. Information about the generated template(s) will display in the AI Response 1 field for you to review, including any selected policies and notable decisions made while generating the template(s), such as calling out header and footer content used in the corresponding legacy template, localization information, etc.
  8. Any generated template(s) will be listed below the AI Response 1 field.
  9. To view a preview of a generated template, click Show preview under the template name in the list.
  10. The template generated by the tool will be displayed. Notifications with multiple localizations will display each localized message in its own tab.

  11. (Optional) Use the Ask AI to refine the templates field at the bottom of the screen to prompt the tool to make adjustments to the template. Enter a prompt and click Send. A new box (ex. AI Response 2) will appear for each new prompt that is entered. 
  12. Once you are satisfied with the template, click Create template next to the template in the list to create the template. You can also click Create all templates below the list of generated templates to create all templates generated by the tool at once.
  13. Once a template has been created, you will be able to edit it. To edit, click the Edit button located to the right of the template name. The template page opens.
    • Click Edit under a template section to make changes. 
    • Templates with localizations will show each localization in its own tab. Click a localization tab to edit the localized template. 

 Note: Once a template has been created using the Auto-generate tool, it will be saved and can be accessed through the NGN template menu in the Service Configuration.
