I received an error when trying to place an order: "One or more items do not have a fund. Order not placed."

Symptom

  • When working in WorldShare Acquisitions, you receive an error when you click Place Order: "One or more items do not have a fund. Order not placed."

Applies to

  • WorldShare Acquisitions

Resolution

Ensure that you have selected both a budget and a fund in the dropdowns in the Budget/Fund column on the order.

The top dropdown is for budgets (if more than one budget is enabled). The bottom dropdown is for the fund against which the cost of the item will be charged. If you're working with the order type Purchase Order, both dropdowns need to be populated before the order can be placed.

Both fields are required for Purchase Orders because this order type encumbers funds when placed, so there needs to be a fund selected when you're working with that order type. This is different from a Gift/Donation List, for example; the workflow for the Gift/Donation List order type doesn't include actually placing an order, so funds aren't involved, and you can successfully click Place Order even if the fund dropdown is left blank.
