Use the Discover tool to view and sort your data

Learn how to view and filter the data available in EZproxy Analytics.

Use the Discover tool

The Discover tool gives you a quick, visual way to explore your EZproxy usage data—helping you spot trends, see what’s popular, and uncover opportunities without running detailed reports.

  • See what’s being used – Quickly view which databases and resources your users are accessing most.
  • Spot trends – Identify increases or decreases in usage over time.
  • Find hidden gems – Discover resources that are growing in popularity or being used in unexpected ways.
  • Highlight underused content – Pinpoint subscriptions that aren’t seeing much traffic.
  • Start exploring fast – Explore your data without any complicated setup.

To use the Discover tool:

  1. Open the Discover Tool
From your EZproxy Analytics dashboard, select Discover from the main menu.

  2. Select the index that you want to explore.
The index determines which dataset the Discover tool will search. Choose the one that matches your needs:
    • audit-* – User authentication events (login success/failure, sessions)
    • ezpaarse-* – Resource usage (platform, provider, database, type, MIME)
    • spu-* – Real time referrer/source of session information

  3. Choose a date range
Use the date selector to focus on the period you want to review—whether that’s last week, last month, or the entire year.
    • Relative time filters – Select a rolling time period, such as:
      • Last 7 days
      • Last 30 days
      • Last 12 months

Note: These update automatically each day, so you’re always seeing the most recent activity. The default view shows the last 30 days on a rolling basis.

    • Absolute time filters - Set a fixed start and end date, such as:
      • January 1, 2024 – March 31, 2024
      • August 1, 2025 – August 15, 2025

Note: These are ideal for reviewing activity during defined timeframes—for example, the beginning or end of a semester, a fiscal year wrap-up, a marketing campaign, or a trial period.

  4. Browse the overview
Expand events to view all related fields and values, choose which fields to display from the data EZproxy captures, and focus your analysis on what matters most.

  5. Explore deeper insights
Focus on a particular resource, platform, or date range to see detailed patterns, including top vendors and busiest access periods. Use filters or the search bar to refine your view.

  6. Share your findings
Save your data set or query, or export it as a CSV file, so you can easily share insights with colleagues, leadership, or stakeholders.

Tip: Use Discover as a starting point for deeper analysis. Once you spot an interesting trend, you can build a dashboard or visualization to better tell your data story.
