Manage Resolvers

Learn how to manage your list of link resolvers to deliver electronic resources to Web users.

Use the Manage Resolvers page in OCLC Service Configuration to list the link resolvers that deliver electronic resources to your users.

To access this screen, sign in to Service Configuration, open the OpenURL Resolvers left navigation, and select Manage Resolvers.

This is a workflow change from the previous screen, which was previously located under WorldCat Registry. If you are a user new to Service Configuration, set your IP address first, using the Manage IP Addresses screen.

Use this screen to list link resolvers that deliver appropriate electronic resources to a Web user.

Add an OpenURL resolver

From the OpenURL Resolvers screen:

  1. Click Add New Resolver.  The Add New Resolver dialog opens with your institution's information and default values already filled in.
  2. Under Standard Options, complete the required fields:
    • Base URL
    • Resolver Name - This must be unique within your institution.
    • OpenURL Version
  3. (Optional) Select Advanced Options to refine how the resolver handles OpenURL requests. Refer to the table below.
  4. Click Submit to save your changes. If a required field is missing or invalid, a message appears beside the field and you cannot save until you correct it.

Once you have added your OpenURL resolver:

  • Add the OpenURL Resolver ID to your IP Address Range Attributes.  Refer to Manage IP Addresses for additional information. To find your OpenURL Resolver ID, select the Edit button (Edit button in the OpenURL Resolvers table in OCLC Service Configuration) from the Actions column for the desired Base URL. The  Add New Resolver dialog will open with the OpenURL ID displayed at the top.
  • In WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local, select the resolver in the Full Text OpenURL Resolvers (outgoing requests) module or the Place Hold/Request Buttons module. Select View Registered OpenURL Resolvers in either module to return to this page.
  • If your library uses Tipasa or WorldShare Interlibrary Loan, see Configure OpenURL for the base OpenURL to register.
