Duplicate items appear on a Discovery record

Symptom

  • On a Discovery record, the "Availability of this Edition" section shows that your library has two duplicate copies of an item when you only own one. There may be multiple examples of this behavior.

Applies to

  • WorldCat Discovery

Resolution

  • First, check to see if the local holdings record (LHR) has multiple 876 fields by mistake. This can cause duplicate items to appear. To resolve this, remove the extra 876 or consolidate the information into one 876 field.
  • If the record is displaying an item attached to a different OCLC number, go to OCLC Service Configuration and complete the following steps:
    • Go to WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Search Settings > Search defaults > Define the default display of item availability for grouped records.
    • Check the box that says, "Display availability from the OCLC number only."
  • As a last option, go to the OCLC Service Configuration and complete the following steps:
    • Go to WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies > Item Availability from OPAC
    • Check the box that says, "Do not display holdings and availability information that looks like a duplicate.”
  • If none of the above resolve the issue, contact OCLC Support with a link to the record in Discovery and a description of the issue.
